2. Brief introduction of the department and services offered.

Introduction of the Eye Department:

• Total bed strength of Eye Department is 30, with bed occupancy of around 85%
• Annual OPD is near about 60,000 patients annually
• Total surgical load is about 3000 surgeries annually

Infrastructure

Eye Department has multiple examination rooms,  1 room for testing visual acuity; 4 rooms for refraction; 6 consultation rooms, each having a slit lamp and autorefractometer.; 1 minor OT; one exclusive room for fundus camera and laser procedures, Ultrasound Examination room and a room for running speciality clinics, a dedicated Operation theatre and a fully air conditioned indoor ward.

Services provided

All major anterior segment surgeries like cataract surgeries including pediatric cataract surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, Pterygium with auto graft, extra ocular surgeries like DCR, squint & oculoplasty surgeries are performed. Botox injections are being given to patients of blephrospasm.

Cataract surgeries with intra ocular lens implantation are done by the most modern method of Phacoemulsification and suture less small incision cataract surgeries.

Emergency services are given round-the-clock to the beneficiaries.

Being an occupational diseases center, all industrial injuries like penetrating trauma, perforating injuries, traumatic cataract, etc are handled in this department.

Traumatic & chemical eye injuries are being managed successfully in eye department.

Clinical achievements

Eye Department has  been upgraded to start medical/surgical  management of :

1. Posterior segment (Retinal) disorders of the eye with addition of :

• Fundus Camera for Retinal Photography & Fundus Flourescein Angiography (FFA)
• Double Frequency Nd YAG laser for retinal photocoagulation in patients suffering from Diabetic Retinopathy, Central Retinal Venous Occlusion,  Eales Disease etc.
• Intravitreal injections of anti-VEGFs

2. Cornal Transplant Surgeries with addition of:

50. Specular Microscope
50. Pachymeter

The department of Ophthalmology also have the following state of the art instruments for advanced surgical procedures:

• Phacoemulsification machine and high end operating microscopes for sutureless cataract surgeries
• Photo slit lamp for recording & storage of anterior segement photographs of the eye for research and teaching purpose.
• Specialty clinics are being run once every week, namely,
• Cornea,
• Glaucoma,
• Retina,
• Squint,
• Oculoplasty
• Neuro-ophthalmology
• The department has more than 40 publications in International/National journals & chapters in books.
