Department of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion

The department has been functioning since 1996 with the aim -

To provide the right blood/ blood component to the right patient at the right time.
Ensure availability of the blood and components at all times.

Vision:-

To start a postgraduate course in Immunohaematology & blood transfusion (MD – IHBT) (In process).
To Start Apheresis (in Process)
To strive for complete automation of the blood centre.
Computerization with blood bank management software.

Location

The department is located on Third-floor old building, ESIC hospital Basaidarapur.

Services provided

Cross-matching and issuing of blood and blood components 24 X 7 (round the clock) 365 days.
Preparation of blood components ( Platelets, PRBCs, FFP )
Testing for Transfusion transmitted infections – 100% collected blood is tested for TTI before being issued.
It is imparting training to paramedical students.

Special service

Providing special facility to Thalassemic children free leukodepleted packed cells without any replacement or charges.
The centre is registered with E Raktkosh, a Govt of India website for updating the stock of blood and blood components.
The centre is registered with the National Institute of Biological for Haemovigilance programme.
Participating in the quality assurance programme of GOI (BEQAS) for maintaining quality in the blood centre.

Dr. Anita Mittal - MBBS, DNB (Pathology), MBA (FMS)

CMO (SAG)

Served in ESIC for more than 34 years and has 20 years of experience in Pathology. Is heading the Blood Bank since 2018.
